Crazy Coco

Language not only develops in conjunction with society’s historical, economic and political evolution, but it also reflects society's attitudes and thinking.

JMCAnderson presents an insight into racial terminology from her childhood and adulthood, a continuation of a body of work that started in 2022 when taking part in the group show ‘In Transit Our Memory Fragments’ at Chelsea Space, London.

For this exhibition at 303 Projects, Lowestoft, Anderson presents both old and new works, including a performance called ‘Crazy Coco’. Exploring internalised racism as a direct product of a racial classification system and the effects it has had on both her physical and mental health.

A double consciousness…Crazy Coco and Jade.

Pink

Pink is the colour from my childhood.

Pink is the colour that I didn’t like, but yetasked mum to have this shade all over my bedroom walls till I left home.

Pink is the colour that I thought I had to like to fit in amongst other girls.

Pink is a shade of Crazy Coco that tried to blend in.

Pink.
